Galveston After Hurricane Ike

Before Hurricane Ike, the City of Galveston’s Comprehensive Plan Update Committee was through the second drafts of the various plan component updates.

After Ike, work went on hold so that the city’s Long-Term Recovery Committee could form and provide their formal recommendations to the City Council for approval. Also, the Urban Land Institute came to Galveston, interviewed stakeholders in the community, and produced suggested action items to help move the city forward. Both efforts benefited from a lot of community involvement.

The Comprehensive Plan Update Committee is now reconvening.  The committee will be working on incorporating the Recovery Plan as well as the Urban Land Institute’s suggestions into the updated  Comprehensive Plan.

Over the next few months, the citizens will be provided opportunities to provide more input, so I hope that you all will be paying attention to the work being done and taking advantage of the opportunities to provide input.
