Hurricane Ike Recovery – Trees Provided Free This Weekend

Hurricane Ike recovery continues - One of the major detrimental effects of Hurricane Ike on the island was the loss of tens of thousands of trees.  Being one of the most visible effects of the storm, the re-forestation of Galveston has been deemed an important recovery goal as it will not only improve the appearance of the island but will also help boost the morale of Galvestonians and their visitors.

To this end, the Tree Folks of Austin, the Apache Foundation, and Randall’s Food Markets are giving away 2,000 trees this weekend for planting on private property in the City of Galveston. The Galveston Tree Committee and the Galveston Island Tree Conservancy will be providing manpower to help folks load the trees into vehicles.
