Galveston Real Estate After Hurricane Ike – Historic Downtown Galveston and The Strand

Galveston real estate after Hurricane Ike - Historic Downtown Galveston and The Strand are continuing their recovery.

Remodeling has begun on several buildings and several are completed or are nearing completion.

Businesses are coming back!

Starbucks has re-opened its location at 22nd and Harborside.

O’Malley;s Stage Door Pub is back and serving drinks and food once again in its laid back, sports-barrish type way.

The Stork Club restaurant is open and has been open for some time.

Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant has just re-opened and my Rotary Club will start meeting there for lunch again next week.

Willie G’s Restaurant has been back about two months – I have not seen it, but I heard it looks great.

Tsunami Bar is back and rumor has it that Yaga’s will soon open in the evenings for drinks and  a couple of weeks after that for food (they have great turkey burgers!).

Work is continuing on Rudy and Paco’s – we are all hoping it gets open soon as we all miss it terribly.

Sky Bar has re-opened and is serving its famous sushi again but is also specializing in steaks.

The Mediterranean Chef is getting closer to opening, and the owners of Olympia Grill are opening a second spot downtown at Pier 21.

Some stores are starting to open, but most are waiting for the spring break season before doing so.

Gracie’s is open in a temporary location at 24th and Strand and is selling its usual assortment of nice gift items.

La Rumba is open in case you have a hankering for Galveston themed items (they make great gifts!).

Bacchus Wine Bar is open once again, and Yaga’s Clothing is back in action.

Over on Postoffice Street, Fullen Jewelry is open as is The Firm, a ladies boutique which has chosen to now carry attractive and comfortable “green” clothing.

I cannot forget Star Drugstore, now only a cafe, where I had a fantastic Angus beef hamburger yesterday.

Work is continuing on three more downtown luxury condo projects and more offices are returning to the downtown area.

In fact, I have just moved my office downtown and an enjoying being able to walk out of the building and walk down the street to grab a cup of coffee, go to the bank, get lunch, go to a meeting, etc.

I look forward to being a part of the return of Historic Downtown Galveston and The Strand.
