Galveston real estate after Hurricane Ike - The floodwaters of Hurricane Ike did indeed invade Galveston’s famed Strand and the historic downtown Galveston area. Cleanup is well under way and stores that have not already done so will be re-opening after the first of the year. Offices above the first levels have been re-occupied for quite some time, and more folks are moving back to their condos and apartments as electricity is re-established to their buildings. Carnival Cruise Lines returned quickly to the Port of Galveston. Projects that were underway before the storm are continuing toward completion. It will look so much better than it already did before the storm.
A project worth taking note of are the new townhouses constructed at 1908, 1914, and 1916 Postoffice. Built as though looking like they were built in an old building, the prices on the remaining units are just under $400,000, a significant decrease from the original prices.
