The Beauty of Galveston
The Sites and Sounds of Galveston Attract the New and Old
Yesterday was a fun day! I got to introduce Galveston to a newly married couple who are thinking about relocating to the Galveston area for jobs. The husband grew up in Houston and still has family there while the wife is from Oregon and had visited Houston but had not been to Galveston.
They loved the older homes of the East End Historic District and Silk Stocking Historic District (the homes reminded her of the Victorian homes in Portland) as well those of Denver Court and Cedar Lawn. They also thought that Evia, Galveston’s last large development behind the Seawall, was very attractive and held promise.
They loved the Strand and the rest of historic downtown Galveston. They were talking about going to last night’s ArtWalk and wanted the number of the Grand 1894 Opera House to see if they could get tickets to see the Oakridge Boys.
Last night, I got to meet with some old friends who lived here from 1983 to 1985 but never have gotten the sand out from between their toes. They recently bought a Denver Court bungalow just down the street from me and were in town for the weekend. They have known Galveston’s charms all these years and have committed themselves to enjoying them more.
Galveston is a cool place. James Selig
